Irrigation best management practices (BMPs)
Definition / description
Irrigation best management practices (BMPs) are science-based operational strategies, practices and technologies developed within a defined scope of water application and management. This scope may relate to the irrigation of a particular crop or crop group within a defined geographic area, the use or selection of specific irrigation methods, landscape irrigation such as turf and ornamental landscapes, or, more broadly, water management and irrigation within a landscape or ecosystem. BMPs take into account a wide range of technical, environmental and economic factors.
