Background
Early life
Born in 1957 in Berlin, Germany, I am the eldest son of the German medical doctor and surgeon Dr med. Dankmar-Raphael Stein and his wife, Hanneliese Martha Stein.
During my childhood and school years I lived in and attended schools in Germany (Salchendorf, Berlin, Schwelm, Neunkirchen, Bergneustadt), Tanzania (Mbesa), and Ethiopia (Addis Abeba). These experiences provided early exposure to different environmental, agricultural, and socio-economic settings and contributed to a lasting interest in land and water issues.
Before commencing university studies, I worked in irrigated horticulture and agriculture in Israel for close to two years. This period provided practical experience in irrigated agriculture and influenced my subsequent academic and professional interests.
Brief details of my academic and professional career are provided in my curriculum vitae .
