Abstract
A companion paper provides equations and procedures for the analysis of surface irrigation systems as an aid to design. These procedures use continuity to determine advance, based on an assumed surface shape factor. Recession in border strips requires empirical expressions, while simple procedures can be used to estimate recession in sloping furrows, level basins and level furrows. The sloping furrow method is extended to include cutback or reuse. The sloping border method is extended to include a blocked end. In this paper examples are provided to demonstrate the application of these design procedures. Performance contours are provided to show the types of solutions that can be developed. Spreadsheets to perform these calculations are available on the Sakia.org e-journal web site http://www.sakia.org/ejlw
